PM congratulates new DAP CEC leadership

PRIME MINISTER Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has extended his congratulations to the newly-elected leadership of the Democratic Action Party (DAP) Central Executive Committee (CEC) for the 2025-2028 term, following the announcement made yesterday.

Anwar, who also serves as Finance Minister, expressed hope that the new leadership would continue to work cohesively as a team for the next three years.

"Congratulations, and continue working," Bernama cited Anwar briefly saying, when speaking to the press after attending the Ihya' Ramadan event with staff from the Ministry of Higher Education (KPT) earlier today.

Around 300 staff from KPT attended the Ramadan lecture, delivered by Professor Madya Datuk Dr Mohd Izhar Ariff Mohd Kashim, Dean of the Faculty of Islamic Studies at Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM), titled "Maqasid Al-Quran and the MADANI Society," followed by a congregational Zuhr prayer led by Dr. Mohd Izhar Ariff.

Also present were Deputy Minister of Higher Education Datuk Mustapha Sakmud and KPT's Secretary-General Datuk Dr Anesee Ibrahim.

The CEC election was held during the DAP's 18th National Congress yesterday, in which Minister of Digital Affairs Gobind Singh Deo was elected as the new National Chairman of DAP, succeeding Lim Guan Eng.

The elections results also saw Transport Minister Anthony Loke successfully retaining his position as Secretary-General for the 2025-2028 term. This marks his second term in the role, having taken over from former Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng in 2022.

Meanwhile, Minister of Housing and Local Government Nga Kor Ming was selected as the Deputy National Chairman, while Teo Nie Ching, Member of Parliament for Kulai and Deputy Minister of Communications, was appointed as Deputy National Vice-Chairman of DAP.

In another development, Anwar refrained from offering any comments when asked about the possibility of a Cabinet reshuffle in light of the DAP election results. - March 17, 2025
