PRIME Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim today said he accepted the resignation of his Senior Political Secretary, Datuk Shamsul Iskandar Mohd Akin and thanked him for his service.
"Regarding the allegations that have arisen, I stress that the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) is free to conduct an investigation immediately, without any external interference.
"The Madani government remains steadfast in its principles of transparency and integrity, and will allow for the investigation process to proceed according to the law," he said in a statement today.
Yesterday, Shamsul said he had submitted his resignation letter to Anwar in the morning.
In a sharing on X, he said his resignation was due to attempts to attack him on issues that could damage the image of the Madani Government.
“I understand that there is an attempt to attack me with things that can damage the image of the Madani government. “Therefore, I have decided to defend myself from this attack.
“I also submitted my resignation letter in the morning to YAB Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim. I thank YAB PM for the trust he has placed in me,” he said.
This follows reports of an alleged support letter issued by a political aide to the prime minister addressed to a health minister's aide, asking for six contractors to be considered for the Muar hospital project.
Anwar had said that the support letter issued by one of his political aides was “vague” and did not constitute an instruction.
He was responding to former minister Datuk Seri Rafizi Ramli’s call for him to take firm action against Shamsul Iskandar for issuing a support letter last year. - November 26, 2025
