PRIME MINISTER Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has ordered the relevant authorities to conduct a thorough investigation into a fatal road crash in Temerloh that claimed four lives, including a young family returning home after National Day celebrations.
Anwar also conveyed his condolences to the victims’ families and prayed for strength and fortitude for those grieving the loss of their loved ones.
"May Allah SWT shower His mercy upon their souls and grant strength and fortitude to the bereaved family," he said in a Facebook post on Sunday evening.
He urged motorists to exercise greater caution, comply with traffic regulations and make road safety a priority at all times.
The 11-vehicle collision occurred at about 10pm at KM110.4 of the East Coast Expressway 1 (LPT1), eastbound in Lanchang, near the Temerloh Toll Plaza exit.
Four people were killed while three others were injured in the crash.
Among those killed were husband and wife Muhammad Nazatul Nazmi, 32, and Nur Atiqah Sofiya Mohd Kazwan, 32, and their four-year-old son, who were travelling in a Proton S70.
The fourth victim was identified as Seow Beng Wain, 55, a passenger in a Honda CR-V from Kota Kemuning, Shah Alam.
The collision involved four cars, three sports utility vehicles, a multi-purpose vehicle, a pickup truck, a cement tanker and a bus.
Preliminary police investigations found that the crash occurred after the cement tanker lost control and struck several vehicles that were travelling slowly in traffic.
The tragedy has renewed concerns over road safety as motorists returned home following the National Day celebrations, underscoring the need for vigilance and strict adherence to traffic rules on busy expressways. - September 2, 2026
