Perak MB Saarani says the PM’s meeting with state leaders is a crucial step to formulate strategies amid global economic challenges

TANJUNG MALIM: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s initiative to meet with all state leaders is a proactive measure to address the West Asia crisis.

Perak Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Saarani Mohamad said the move ensures all state perspectives are considered when formulating strategies for complex global economic challenges.

“This is not the time for finger-pointing,” he said at a press conference today.

“Whoever is in office will face the same challenges, so we must confront them together.”

Saarani emphasised that close federal-state cooperation is crucial for well-rounded decisions that benefit all segments of society.

Anwar said yesterday the government plans to convene state leaders and party representatives for a special briefing next week.

The briefing will be delivered by the National Security Council and the National Economic Action Council.

It aims to discuss coordinated measures to safeguard economic sustainability and national security amid uncertainty in West Asia.

In Gerik, UMNO secretary-general Datuk Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki said the party will table proposals at the meeting.

He said the focus will be on immediate measures to alleviate public cost-of-living pressures.

“I believe next week’s special briefing provides the ideal platform to raise the issues that matter most to the people,” he told reporters.

Asyraf Wajdi, who is also MARA chairman, said the government must prioritise citizen welfare given global challenges.

On opposition calls for a special parliamentary sitting, he said swift executive action is now the priority.

Opposition leader Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin had formally requested a special sitting under Dewan Rakyat Standing Orders.
