PRIME Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has directed the Ministry of Rural Development (KKDW) to accelerate the implementation of essential infrastructure projects aimed at improving the lives of rural communities.
These projects, which include vital services such as roads, electricity, solar energy supply, clean water access, village connectivity, social amenities, and affordable housing for rural populations, are to be prioritised, Anwar said.
Speaking at a meeting with KKDW leadership, Anwar stressed the importance of thorough monitoring to ensure that these projects are executed accurately, on time, and in alignment with current needs.
He noted that detailed progress reports must be submitted to the relevant ministers and, subsequently, to the Cabinet for prompt resolution of any arising issues.
“I have emphasised the need for KKDW to focus on accelerating basic infrastructure development for the benefit of the people, particularly those in rural areas. The progress of these projects must be monitored closely and comprehensively, with timely updates provided to ministers and the Cabinet to ensure that any emerging issues are resolved promptly,” Anwar stated in a Facebook post today.
In his statement, Anwar also underlined the importance of incorporating Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) education for rural students.
He urged the ministry’s agencies to take proactive measures in this regard, establishing clear timelines and effective training programs tailored to meet the needs of rural youth.
“The KKDW must prioritise STEM fields for rural students. It is essential for the ministry’s agencies to implement proactive measures, set realistic timelines, and design effective training periods that align with the needs of these communities,” he added.
The Prime Minister’s remarks were made during a meeting with the KKDW leadership, chaired by Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr. Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, who also serves as the Minister of Rural Development.
The meeting, held in Putrajaya, also discussed improvements to the ministry’s mechanisms and policies to ensure they are competitive and in line with the ongoing digital transformation and global economic shifts.
Following the meeting, Anwar attended a Ramadan event with the KKDW family, where he participated in a lecture titled "A Perfect Ramadan" by Ustaz Asri Hassan, Chief Assistant Director at the Human Resources Division of Majlis Amanah Rakyat (MARA).
“While we continue to enhance our acts of worship during this blessed month of Ramadan, I trust that the KKDW staff remain steadfast in fulfilling their noble duty of providing the best services to the people.
“Striving to improve and ensure the well-being of all is a core value in our faith,” Anwar remarked.
Anwar added: “May the spirit of Ramadan inspire us all to work harder and more effectively for the betterment of the people. I pray that our small efforts will elevate the dignity and quality of human life.” - March 13, 2025
