PRIME MINISTER Anwar Ibrahim has urged Malaysians not to allow emotions, provocation or differences of opinion to fracture long-standing bonds within the country’s multicultural society, as he extended Chinese New Year greetings to the nation.
In a message posted on Facebook ahead of the celebrations, Anwar stressed that diversity should serve as a foundation for deeper understanding rather than division.
“Differences should instead be turned into an opportunity to strengthen the spirit of goodwill, reject prejudice and choose the path of dialogue, consultation and wisdom in order to preserve our shared harmony,” he said.
He noted that Chinese New Year is a reminder of prosperity, hope and the resolve to move forward with confidence, adding that the Year of the Horse symbolises diligence, courage and fighting spirit, alongside the need for prudence and moderation.
“Chinese New Year always reminds us of prosperity, hope and the strength to move forward with full confidence. In this Year of the Horse, diligence, courage and fighting spirit are celebrated alongside the call to act with wisdom and moderation.
“Confucius reminds us that harmony is born when people respect and understand one another. This is the foundation that enables a multi-ethnic society to live together peacefully despite differences in cultural background and belief,” he said.
Anwar expressed confidence that Malaysia would continue to advance strongly so long as harmony, mutual respect and compassion remain shared national principles. He also conveyed his prayers for the well-being and prosperity of all Malaysians.
“Gong Xi Fa Cai! Xin Nian Kuai Le! Ma Nian Xin Da Yun!” said the Prime Minister. - February 17, 2026
