Tun Daim recently said PM10 is a wolf in sheep’s clothing that cried reforms, but does the polar opposite.

Before his dramatic arrest on 20 September 1998, PM10 travelled across the country, giving huge crowds public lectures on justice, the prevalence of cronyism and corruption and the urgency for social safety nets.

Even though Daim claimed he had supported Anwar in 2018, it was clear for all to see that his support then was for Dr Mahathir who was then named the candidate for Prime Minister for the Pakatan Harapan coalition.

Daim did not support PM10 per se in 2018.

In 2018 at the general election, Anwar then was still in jail and not pardoned yet.

Even though it was acknowledged that PM10 was the defacto leader of the Pakatan Harapan coalition, he was not the official leader of Pakatan Harapan in 2018.

His wife, Dr. Wan Azizah Wan Ismail was the official leader of the Pakatan Harapan coalition in 2018.

Thus, for Daim to claim that he supported Anwar in 2018 is clearly misleading.

Daim and Dr Mahathir clearly do not want and never had the intention for Anwar to be made Prime Minister.

Immediately almost one week after Dr Mahathir was appointed as the Prime Minister the 2nd time, Daim in an interview with the Straits Times in Singapore publicly warned that PM10 should not rush and be appointed as the Prime Minister to replace Dr Mahathir giving the excuse that the public’s trust in the coalition will be lost if Pakatan Harapan were to break their promise to the people.

Daim also reportedly expressed his worries over the security and well-being and feared that the country will be in chaos if Anwar becomes PM.

And now when is charged for corruption, he has the temerity to claim that he supported Anwar in 2018?

Yes, the ordinary rakyat is not too happy with the slow pace of reforms but not on corruption involving the political elites and their cronies, a cornerstone of one of Anwar’s cries for reformasi in 1998.

The ordinary rakyat is happy that karma is now catching up on those political elites and their cronies.

Before Anwar was appointed as PM10, corruptions amongst the political elites and their cronies are confined and restricted mainly to murmurs of discontent and whispering in closed doors environment only.

Actions if any, is like waiting for the sun to rise from the West and set in the East.

Honesty, integrity and good governance were absent from the days when Dr Mahathir was the Prime Minister the first time round to his successors including his 2nd stint as the Prime Minister and those who succeeded him thereafter.

The rot that sets in since Dr Mahathir’s days is so deeply entrenched in the minds of all politicians that it will be a miracle if Anwar can unwind and inculcate honesty, integrity and good governance into the government even if he is given another term as the Prime Minister.

The rot is clearly evidenced in his own behavior and actions that when asked to provide a written statement on assets by MACC, he chose to provide an incomplete statement deliberately that then gave rise to him being charged for non compliance.

His arrogance in ignoring and not adhering to the laws of the country which is applicable to every Malaysian regardless of background is repugnant giving the ordinary rakyat the impression that he should be judged based on a lower instead of higher standard of honesty and integrity.

Obviously he is not bothered about his fate now as he knows that given the alleged secrecy in how he works, the authorities is likely not able to gather enough evidence to charge him.

During his days as the Minister of Finance and also when he was the Chairman of the Council of Eminent Persons, there were already murmurs of him and the Prime Minister then using institutions like the MACC, Attorney-General’s Chambers (AGC) and Inland Revenue Board (IRB) to pursue political opponents.

So why is he surprised with this?

Unlike the days when he was the Minister of Finance where the ordinary rakyat are generally compliant and oblivious to the shenanigans committed by the political elites in robbing the country blind, the ordinary rakyat now has awakened up.

They no longer hesitate and afraid.

The ordinary rakyat are law abiding.

They vote to change the government unlike the politicians who schemed and plots for the fall of a sitting government midstream acting outside the mandate given to them by the ordinary rakyat.

The ordinary rakyat has been cleaning up the faeces left over by the politicians starting from the 14th GE.

It is the ordinary rakyat that has been protecting and saving the country.

Not the politicians.

Many of the politicians have shown that they are not only immoral but have zero honesty and integrity in each of them.

Once elected, they go against the wishes of the voters who voted for them based on their promises made during the elections.

Yes, Daim said it eloquently that a government is accountable to its people, not the other way around.

Was he not aware of this when he was the Minister of Finance?

No matter how powerful evil may seem, good always holds the ultimate victory.
