Father and daughter work for Free!

The Finance Ministry's revelation that Nurul Izzah Anwar was working for free has surely put to rest any doubts about politicians' intentions, right?

I mean, who needs a paycheck when you can survive on the warm fuzzy feeling of serving the nation alone?

It's heartwarming to see our leaders including PMX, sacrifice their financial stability for the greater good. Because, let's face it, with their hefty responsibilities, they must be living off unicorn tears and pixie dust to make ends meet.

And of course, we should all believe that politicians, who are already known for their frugality and aversion to luxury, wouldn't dream of using their influence for personal gain. Who needs a paycheck when you can just charm your way into getting what you want?

But let's not get carried away with this whole "national service" thing. Sure, it's noble and all, but let's not forget the real heroes here—the taxpayers who foot the bill for everything, including those seemingly endless financial requests from constituents.

And hey, why stop at not taking a salary? Maybe politicians should start paying for the privilege of serving the public. That would surely weed out anyone with less-than-altruistic intentions, right?

So, let's all raise a toast to our selfless leaders, particularly PMX an daughter who bravely navigate the treacherous waters of politics without the safety net of a steady income. Because in the end, who needs money when you have the warm glow of public adoration to keep you warm at night?

Let's end this article with the conclusion reached by Jonathan Liew who inspired us to write this column: “Rather than putting politicians on a pedestal for not taking a salary, maybe it's time we start asking more questions about transparency and accountability. After all, there's no such thing as a free lunch, especially in politics.”
