Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil has revealed that the rollout of the RON95 targeted subsidy, which was previously set for mid-2025, has been slightly delayed.

Speaking at the weekly press conference at the Parliament building earlier today, Fahmi asserted that the Government is currently reviewing the mechanism of the targeted subsidy so that it won’t have a negative impact on the majority of the rakyat.

The Communications Minister added that the Government wants to ensure that every policy goes through a careful channelling mechanism to avoid knock-on effects on the prices of goods and services.

Fahmi further revealed that during the recent Government retreat involving Ministers and Members of Parliament (MPs), Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim expressed his view that he doesn’t want the implementation of policies, including the targeted RON95 subsidy, to have a negative impact on the majority of the people.

The Communications Minister provided how the Government refined the expansion of the scope of the Sales and Service Tax (SST) after it was announced as an example of how the Government re-examined its policy mechanism to minimise impact.

Fahmi asserted,

“It is this process of fine-tuning that has resulted in a slight shift in the timeline (of the targeted RON95 subsidy rollout),”
