PMX announced in his social media account that the government will be setting up a special task force to address serious financial irregularities to strengthen the credibility of the country’s fiscal management.

The ordinary rakyat is asking – what?

Another useless taskforce to do what?

To study the issues identified and offer solutions?

When you were first appointed in Nov 2022, you announced the formation National Action Council on Cost of Living emphasising that the issue of the rising cost of living will be given priority by the unity government to alleviate the burden shouldered by the people.

In May 2023, you reportedly instructed the Ministry of Education to set up a Special Task force to find a way to stimulate children’s interests in subjects related to science & technology.

IN Dec 2023, using the justification that the existing procurement system for the national security force is weak, only in name, procurement is made, but (goods) not obtained with a a lot of leakages it needed to be revamped to make it more transparent and you said a task force would be set up to speed up procurement approvals for the country’s security forces.

The above are just some of the many task force formed by you and your government from Nov 2022.

New task forces, study groups and advisory bodies appears to be a dominant theme in your government.

Task forces can be useful when there is a policy question that must be answered and is outside or beyond the purview of the normal policy making process.

Task forces work best when they are staffed by professionals with deep expertise in the area considered and those staff are empowered to bring well developed solutions to the problems being considered.

Unfortunately, all too many of the task forces set up have been the governmental equivalent of treading water, exhausting time and resources while moving no place forward.

The government and the politicians cannot be so ignorant of social media, as they have been using to promote themselves in every way possible which and where all things wrong in this country are highlighted in increasing frequency for the last few years.

It is clear that many of these task forces were created as a way to make it appear as if there is a response to a political demand, with no real intention of making any progress.

There is no need for a task force to tell you that financial irregularities is a widespread issue.

Not surprised that the decision to set up the special task force to address serious financial irregularities is just another window dressing like other task forces before it.

The end of the process couldn’t be more dissimilar from its start.

We, the ordinary rakyat do not want more task forces, we want action.

Just work on the leakages and wastages highlighted in the yearly report by the Auditor General - majority of which are not one off - should be sufficient and keep MACC busy.

Not a task force who only identify and reports on the issues already known widely amongst the ordinary rakyat and nothing was then done on the issues highlighted.
