Bersatu secretary-general Mohamed Azmin Ali says the deregistration of Perikatan Nasional by the RoS proves PAS’ failure to manage the coalition properly.
KUALA LUMPUR: The deregistration of Perikatan Nasional (PN) proves that PAS has failed to manage the coalition based on democratic principles and good governance, and has repeatedly betrayed its allies, said Bersatu secretary-general Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali.
He said the deregistration order issued by the Registrar of Societies (RoS) proved that Bersatu’s complaint against PN on Aug 11 was well-founded.
Azmin said Bersatu filed the complaint to ensure that PN was managed based on the principles of accountability, transparency and integrity, while complying with all legal requirements and the coalition’s constitution.
He said the action by the PAS-led PN leadership in denying Bersatu the right to attend, give its views and vote at the PN Supreme Council (MT) meeting on July 16 constituted a fatal offence and a breach of Clause 7.1 of the PN constitution.
“The reasons and explanations given by PAS in the investigation conducted by RoS have proven to be unfounded and failed to meet the requirements of the law and the PN constitution.
“Violating the law has serious consequences and appears set to destroy PN’s future,” he said in a statement today.
In a statement today, RoS said it deregistered PN after finding that the explanation submitted by the coalition had failed to rebut the grounds for deregistration stated in an earlier notice.
Azmin alleged that the PN leadership’s disregard for good and transparent governance had created what he described as a threat and pressure to strip Bersatu of its membership and remove it as a legitimate component party of PN through a veto exercised by an individual who was not a member of the PN MT.
He said Bersatu had confirmed on Sept 25 that the party had been called to give evidence to RoS on Aug 18 and had provided factual explanations and evidence showing that the PN leadership had denied its rights.
He said RoS’ decision also proved that Bersatu was on the right side in trying to save PN, and that the coalition should not be allowed to become a refuge for groups hungry for political power and attempting to hijack the PN brand.
Azmin said the RoS decision was difficult for Bersatu to accept as a founding member of PN and that the Bersatu Supreme Council would meet to discuss the next steps to rebuild public confidence.
Meanwhile, Bersatu Armada information chief Harris Idaham Rashid alleged that the utter failure of PN chairman Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar and PN secretary-general Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan to properly manage meeting procedures, coupled with their arrogance in disregarding several clauses of the PN constitution, had destroyed a political platform.
He alleged that when the coalition’s leadership changed from Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin to Ahmad Samsuri, the entire PN institution immediately collapsed and fell apart.
“This is clear evidence of extremely embarrassing incompetence. A governance approach that treats important coalition decisions as if they were personal property, without the overall consensus of the component parties, has ultimately backfired,” he said.
In this regard, Harris Idaham said the Armada wing urged that a political restructuring plan be implemented immediately to safeguard the dignity, rights and genuine voice of all grassroots members.
