SHAH ALAM, July 8 — No Perikatan Nasional (PN) assemblymen attended the briefing on the Putra Heights gas pipeline explosion held by the state government yesterday evening, Selangor Speaker Lau Weng San revealed.

Instead, he said, the opposition bench only sent three secretariat members as representatives.

Lau said the three-hour briefing was important as it was conducted by authorities involved in the investigation and contained crucial technical input.

“However, they (PN) sent three of their staff to the briefing. They were allowed to ask questions afterwards,” he said in a press conference ahead of today’s Selangor State Legislative Assembly sitting at the State Secretariat Building here.

Lau said PN assemblymen boycotted the briefing in protest of his decision to reject the motions filed by Hulu Kelang assemblyman Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali and Taman Medan assemblyman Dr Afif Bahardin for a special sitting to debate the Putra Heights blast yesterday.

“This is what happened, and I refuse to comment on it further. Their staff even requested the presentation slides from the briefing, but I told them it’s available on the Menteri Besar’s Facebook page,” he said.

“I think the briefing was very informative, with many technical terms that people can learn. Everyone was encouraged to ask questions,” he added.
