PETALING JAYA: The electoral landslide achieved by C. Joseph Vijay and his party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), in the Tamil Nadu state elections has been hailed as a resounding mandate for reform and a clear rejection of divisive politics.
In a statement released on Monday, Perikatan Nasional (PN) secretary-general Takiyuddin Hassan extended his congratulations to Vijay on his historic victory and subsequent appointment as the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu.
Takiyuddin said that the election results highlighted a powerful wave of public support for a leadership vision anchored in justice, social harmony, and youth empowerment.
He said that the electorate’s choice reflects a collective desire for modernisation and progressive governance.
“As a former actor better known as Thalapathy Vijay, he is held in high regard in Malaysia, particularly among Indian youths, for his artistic contributions, his humanitarian efforts and his burgeoning role in public leadership,” Takiyuddin stated.
Takiyuddin highlighted that Vijay’s transition from cinema to the pinnacle of state politics has been monitored with “great interest and enthusiasm” within Malaysia.
This fascination is attributed to the deep-rooted historical, cultural and linguistic connections between Tamil Nadu and the Malaysian Indian community.
The celebrated film icon was officially sworn in as Chief Minister on Sunday, after TVK secured a commanding majority in a closely watched legislative race.
The victory marks a significant shift in the political landscape of the South Indian state.
Takiyuddin expressed PN’s hope that Vijay’s tenure would usher in a new era of stability and prosperity for the region.
