THE Anti-Cybercrime Group (ACG) of the Philippine National Police (PNP) on Wednesday warned the public of a growing number of love or romance scams where manipulators lure victims who end up as online sex workers.
“We will not allow our countrymen, especially our women, to be abused by foreigners who are in the country, especially to have them used for online sexual exploitation. They will answer to us,” BGen. Wilson Asueta, ACG director, told reporters on Wednesday.
The warning came following the arrest of a 27-year-old American who, through dating apps, pursued Filipina victims.
“He first makes women fall, then asks them for a meet-up. When he gets their trust, he mindsets the victims and offers modeling jobs. Others he pursues as personal partners,” Asueta said.
“Once he gains the trust of these women, he mindsets them to get involved in sexual activities, particularly live streaming,” Asueta said.
He said each livestream fetches at least 2,000 tokens for P7,000.
Aside from livestreams, the man also films his women performing sexual activities with him, which he sells to pornographic channels online.
Asueta said the women are being offered from P50,000 to over P100,000 for filming sexual activities online.
A victim managed to escape the townhome in Nasugbu, Batangas, where she and seven others were lodged.
Asueta said victims of romance scams are usually threatened to perform sexual acts.
