MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine National Police (PNP) on Tuesday said it supports the proposal to amend the Juvenile Justice Welface Act, particularly the lowering of the age of criminal responsibility.
“The PNP is supportive of lowering the age of criminal liability to 12 years old,” PNP Spokesman Allen Rae Co said in a briefing in Malacañang.
“We are already having problems with the increasing involvement (of minors in crimes). They have discernment. They know what they are doing,” he added in Filipino.
The current law puts the minimum age of criminal responsibility at 15 years old.
