PNP on full alert after Senate shooting

MANILA, Philippines —The Philippine National Police (PNP) on Wednesday night placed the entire police force nationwide effective 8:30 pm until further notice following an active shooting incident in the Senate amid supposed attempts to arrest Sen. Ronald “Bato” dela Rosa.

“Based on reports from personnel on the ground, security monitoring and police presence in the vicinity of the Senate premises were intensified this evening following a reported incident currently subject to verification,” the PNP said in a statement.

“As part of standard security protocols and public safety measures, alert status was raised to FULL ALERT STATUS effective 8:30 PM, May 13, 2026. PNP personnel remain deployed in the area to maintain peace and order while assessment and coordination continue,” it added.

Interior Secretary Jonvic Remulla went to the Senate to secure the area and clarified that it was not the PNP who caused the shooting.

He also said that they were not there to arrest Dela Rosa but in fact, to secure his safety.

The PNP deployed more or less 1,500 PNP personnel to secure the Senate perimeter.
