The Philippine National Police (PNP) is ready to defend the results of its investigation of the May 13 Senate shooting.
“Our investigation report was a product of meticulous work and dedication of our personnel to establish what really happened based on the pieces of evidence obtained,” PNP chief, Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. said in a statement on Monday.
“We are ready to explain and we are ready for any scrutiny,” he said.
For weeks, Senate President Alan Peter Cayetano has been calling for an independent inquiry into the incident, particularly after President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. commented that the shooting was “fake.”
Cayetano said he believes the President is being “given the wrong information.”
He said the Senate Committee on Public Order will lead the investigation and summon officials from the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI), Department of Justice (DoJ), PNP and Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG).
The Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) earlier linked the incident to Sen. Ronald “Bato” dela Rosa’s escape,
The CIDG also said Sen. Robin Padilla, a staunch friend and supporter of dela Rosa and the Duterte clan, was an “indispensable” player in the incident and that his escape would not have happened without Padilla’s help.
“We in the PNP will always submit to lawful and rules-based processes, and our investigators are committed to fully cooperate with any investigating body in the spirit of truth and transparency,” Nartatez said.
