The Polish Secret Service has arrested a suspected agent who was working for a state-owned defence contractor.
Defence Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz announced on X on Friday that the suspect is a Polish citizen. He was arrested and remanded in custody for three months.
According to reports, the suspect worked for the Polish defence group PGZ. Investigators accuse him of working for a foreign intelligence service. If convicted, he faces at least eight years in prison.
PGZ is the most important company in Poland’s state-owned defence industry and one of the main suppliers to the Polish army.
It comprises dozens of companies that manufacture weapons and military equipment, including howitzers and wheeled armoured vehicles, as well as submachine guns and rifles.
Poland is one of the most important political and military supporters of Ukraine, which is under attack from Russia. Warsaw has accused the intelligence services of Russia and its ally Belarus of sending many agents into the country and of recruiting saboteurs.
