ALOR SETAR: Police have arrested 10 suspects in connection with the attempted shooting of a Malaysian Border Control and Protection Agency (AKPS) commander in Bukit Kayu Hitam last week.
Kedah police chief Datuk Adzli Abu Shah (pic) said the suspects, including a Thai woman, are believed linked to ‘Geng Pak Su’. They were detained between February 25 and 28 in several locations around Kubang Pasu.
The arrests included three Malaysian men aged between 44 and 58. They were held in three follow-up raids on Saturday by the Kedah and federal Criminal Investigation Department’s Special Investigation Division (D9).
“One of the suspects tested positive for methamphetamine, and we also seized three mobile phones,” Adzli said in a statement.
Two of the suspects have prior criminal records. The total of 10 detainees includes seven suspects arrested within 24 hours of the incident.
Investigations are ongoing to trace the weapons used by the two motorcycle-riding suspects. The assailants attempted to shoot Senior Assistant Commissioner Mohd Nasaruddin M. Nasir.
The incident occurred at 5.40 am on February 25 along a slip road near the Muhajirin Mosque. The location is about one kilometre from the Malaysia-Thailand border at Bukit Kayu Hitam.
Suspects on motorcycles fired two shots from a suspected semi-automatic weapon at the victim’s Proton X70 SUV.
