Three individuals, including a married couple, face charges for trafficking 510kg of methamphetamine in Wang Kelian, with no bail granted.

KANGAR: Three individuals, including a married couple, were charged at the Magistrate’s Court here with trafficking 510 kilogrammes of methamphetamine.

The accused are Mohd Rizuan Ramli, 37, and the married couple Muhammad Amir Aswad Ismail, 27, and Nur Atiqa Anis Ramadha Abdullah, 24.

They nodded in understanding after the charge was read before Magistrate Nurul Natasha Rizal.

No plea was recorded as drug trafficking cases fall under the jurisdiction of the High Court.

The trio are jointly accused of trafficking 510,000 grammes of methamphetamine on March 24.

The alleged offence occurred at about 9.30 am on the main road near a TNB substation in Wang Kelian, Kaki Bukit.

They were charged under Section 39B(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, read with Section 34 of the Penal Code.

The charge carries the death penalty or life imprisonment and a minimum of 12 strokes of the cane upon conviction.

The court did not allow bail for any of the accused.

Magistrate Nurul Natasha Rizal set July 2 for mention pending the chemical report.

Deputy public prosecutor Mohd Alif Farhan Hassan appeared for the prosecution.

The accused were represented by lawyer Nur Iman Nor Azmi.
