Police arrested four men for suspected Ah Long activities in a Cheras raid, seizing items used for intimidation.

KUALA LUMPUR: Police have arrested four men suspected of operating as aggressive unlicensed debt collectors (Ah Long) in a raid under Ops Cantas in Desa Bukit Tiara, Cheras, here on Thursday (April 23).

Cheras police chief ACP Mohd Rosdi Daud said the operation, conducted by the Criminal Investigation Division (D7) of the Cheras Police Headquarters, led to the arrest of the four suspects aged between 19 and 26.

He said the arrests were made following a report by a contractor claiming that the walls of his house and the surrounding area had been covered with defamatory stickers, in addition to receiving criminal threats via phone calls.

“In the raid, police also seized a Perodua Axia car, five mobile phones, a loudspeaker and two vests bearing the words ‘Debt Collector’, which are believed to have been used for intimidation purposes,” he said in a statement today.

According to him, investigations found that the group had been active in carrying out harassment at 18 locations around the Klang Valley, including Kuala Lumpur, Puchong, Petaling Jaya and Rawang.

“The case is being investigated under Section 506 of the Penal Code for criminal intimidation.

“All suspects were remanded for three days before being released on police bail yesterday (April 27), and investigation papers are being finalised to be referred to the Deputy Public Prosecutor for further instructions,” he said.
