
Penang police have arrested a 62-year-old man for allegedly assaulting his 80-year-old neighbour with an iron bar during an argument in Jalan Perak.
GEORGE TOWN: Police have arrested a man to assist investigations into an incident in which he allegedly assaulted his elderly neighbour with an iron bar, leaving the 80-year-old man seriously injured at Jalan Perak here today. The incident also went viral on social media.
Northeast District Police Chief ACP Abdul Rozak Muhammad said investigations found that the altercation involving the 62-year-old suspect and his 80-year-old male neighbour occurred at 9.30 am in front of a house.
“As a result of the incident, the victim, who sustained serious injuries to his hands and legs, is currently receiving treatment at Penang Hospital.
“Preliminary investigations found that the incident was believed to have stemmed from a misunderstanding between the two,” he said in a statement today.
He said police subsequently arrested the man and seized an iron bar believed to have been used to assault his neighbour.
Abdul Rozak said the man would be remanded tomorrow to assist further investigations under Section 326 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt using a weapon.
Earlier, a 15-second video went viral on social media showing a man lying in front of a house, believed to have been injured after being assaulted by his neighbour.
