Police in Kuala Lumpur arrest a 22-year-old man suspected of using a ceramic spark plug fragment to smash car windows and steal items from vehicles parked at MRT stations

KUALA LUMPUR: Police have arrested a man suspected of breaking vehicle windows using a ceramic spark plug fragment to steal items from inside.

Sentul District Police Chief ACP Basri Sagoni said the 22-year-old suspect was apprehended in the Damansara area of Selangor at around 8.30 pm yesterday.

Initial investigations found he has six previous criminal records and one drug-related record.

The arrest followed a police report received last Tuesday from a victim who claimed his car window was smashed while parked at the Kepong Baru MRT station.

Police also seized several items belonging to the victim, including a mobile phone, a wristwatch, five Touch ‘n Go cards, a battery charger, and the clothing worn by the suspect during the crime.

“The suspect’s modus operandi was targeting parking areas at MRT stations and quiet places,” Basri said in a statement today.

He added that police believe six related cases reported previously have been solved following this arrest.

The interrogation process is continuing to complete the investigation paper before it is referred to the Deputy Public Prosecutor for prosecution.
