MANILA, Philippines — Parañaque police arrested a suspect in the robbery and assault of a Japanese tourist along the Cavitex access road in San Dionisio village and recovered the victim’s belongings.
The Southern Police District said the victim, a 62-year-old Japanese national identified as “Akira,” was attacked near the shoreline area of Cavitex after 10 a.m. on Jan. 24, 2026.
Police said the suspect struck the victim on the head with a piece of wood before stealing his sling bag and fleeing, while village responders rushed the injured tourist to the Ospital ng Parañaque where he remained confined.
CCTV backtracking and follow-up operations led police to arrest the suspect, identified as alias “Ariel,” 49, a vendor and resident of San Dionisio village, at around 6:30 p.m. on Monday.
Police recovered the victim’s sling bag, iPhone, passport, and other personal items from the suspect, who was identified by the victim at the hospital, as authorities prepare a robbery complaint before prosecutors.
