In a major crackdown against drug trafficking, Kapurthala police arrested two accused persons in separate cases and recovered intoxicating substances from their possession during routine patrol operations.

In the first incident, a police party conducting patrol duty near the grain market spotted a suspicious man approaching on foot. On noticing the police vehicle, the man allegedly tried to flee, but the police team acted swiftly and apprehended him. During questioning, the accused identified himself as Amarnath, son of Tarsem Lal, a resident of Sheikhupur under City Kapurthala police station. A search of his possession led to the recovery of 110 loose intoxicating tablets without any label or mark. Police registered a case against the accused under the relevant sections of the law and initiated further investigation.

In another operation, a police party noticed a youth sitting on the roadside with a heavy white plastic sack. On seeing the police, the suspect allegedly kicked the sack aside and attempted to move away. The police intercepted and identified him as Balwant Singh, son of Karnail Singh, a resident of Boot village under Subhanpur police station in Kapurthala district. Upon checking the plastic sack, police recovered 20 kilograms of poppy husk. A case was registered against the accused and further investigation is underway.
