Efforts are underway by the district administration and the Amritsar police to defuse tensions on the campus of Khalsa College of Engineering and Technology here days after a violent clash between two groups of students. In this regard, Commissioner of Police Gurpreet Singh Bhullar and Deputy Commissioner Dalwinderjit Singh met students on Saturday.

Following the circulation of several videos of the clash, between Kashmiri and Bihari students, accompanied by polarising claims of regionalism and stereotyping, the officials interacted with students to ensure that any lingering discord was resolved.

Social media narratives surrounding the clash at the college have largely focused on allegations of regional discrimination, language disputes and the perceived lack of institutional support.

While the police and the college management claimed that the matter had been resolved through intervention, videos circulating online have transformed the campus altercation into a broader debate on anti-migrant sentiment and prejudice.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Investigation) Jagjit Singh Walia released a video message refuting such claims.

“There is a calm atmosphere in the college. The Police Commissioner and the Deputy Commissioner met students today, listened to them and resolved the matter amicably. Several false narratives are being spread on social media regarding the incident, misleading the public. We are working to identify those spreading rumours, and strict action will be taken against anyone found circulating unverified information,” the DCP said.

The Khalsa College of Engineering and Technology is run by the Khalsa College Governing Council (KCGC). Rajinder Mohan Singh Chinna, secretary of the KCGC, said, “The matter has been resolved and students are now satisfied with the intervention.”
