POLICE have classified the disappearance of a woman who was scheduled to appear at the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) office in Putrajaya on April 9 to give a statement as a kidnapping.
Kuala Lumpur Police Chief Datuk Rusdi Mohd Isa said a police report on the woman's disappearance was received at the Putrajaya Precinct 7 police station at 3.02pm the same day.
"The woman was scheduled to appear at the MACC Putrajaya office to give a statement regarding an MACC investigation.
"The victim's absence on April 9 was confirmed by the MACC," he said in a statement today.
He said that before the incident, the woman had appeared at the MACC office several times to give a statement on the case being investigated.
"A police report regarding the victim's disappearance was also made by the victim's lawyer in Seri Kembangan," he said.
Rusdi said that the statements of several individuals, including MACC officers and the victim's lawyer, had been recorded to assist in the investigation.
"The investigation is being conducted under Section 365 of the Penal Code (kidnapping and abducting a person with the intention of secretly and wrongfully confining them)," he said.
Earlier, it was reported that a 42-year-old woman known as Datin Seri Pamela Ling Yueh took an e-hailing vehicle from her home in Petaling Jaya to the MACC Putrajaya office before being intercepted by three individuals who introduced themselves as 'MACC officers'.
The family who claimed that the woman was taken away by the individuals involved and until now has not been uncontactable.
Meanwhile Ling's family has made a public appeal for information on her.
Her brother Simon Ling Wan Siong, in a statement, said Pamela messaged her lawyer at 1.57pm saying she was on her way to the MACC in Putrajaya and was expected to arrive by 2.08pm in a Grab car.
According to the police report by Pamela's lawyer, she travelled from Jalan Cheras at 1.29pm that day, and her mobile phone’s last known location was detected near the MEX highway close to Pusat Bandar Putra Permai at 1.52pm.
“Despite repeated efforts by her family and lawyer to contact her after 2.00pm, the calls went unanswered and WhatsApp messages remained undelivered. Her last known residence is at an apartment in Sunway Velocity, Cheras.
“Efforts to trace her whereabouts through Grab Malaysia confirmed that the ride was marked as completed, but no further information has been made available,” Simon said.
“Ling has not been seen or heard from since that afternoon. It has now been over 20 days since her disappearance. We urgently call on the police to intensify their efforts, pursue all possible leads, and do everything necessary to locate her without delay.
"We, her family together with our lawyer, Sangeet Kaur Deo, will continue to fully cooperate in the investigations,” the statement said, adding they fear for her safety and time is of the essence.
The family and their lawyer are unaware of the investigation Pamela was assisting with.
