Selangor police are investigating whether recent excavation works near the Putra Heights explosion site contributed to the pipeline blast that shook the area.
Selangor police chief Datuk Hussein Omar Khan confirmed excavation had been taking place approximately 30 meters from the blast location, aimed at installing sewer pipes.
However, the excavation work had stopped on March 30, days before the incident.
“We’re looking into whether the excavation might have caused the explosion,” he said during a press conference, adding that authorities had identified all parties involved, including the developer, contractor, and subcontractors responsible for the excavation.
Samples from the damaged gas pipeline have already been sent to a lab for chemical analysis.
The affected pipeline is part of Malaysia’s extensive gas distribution network, linking Terengganu to Segamat and then northwards towards Thailand.
The pipeline has been operational for approximately 30 years, playing a crucial role in supplying natural gas to Malaysia and neighbouring Thailand.
