GEORGE TOWN: Police have confirmed that a man who used a firearm to apprehend another man, in an incident captured on a video uploaded to social media, is a serving policeman.

Timur Laut police chief Razlam Ab Hamid said the man is part of the CID unit at Penang headquarters and that the incident occurred in Relau at 5.45pm on Wednesday.

The policeman in question was apprehending a suspect in a case of obstructing and using criminal force against a civil servant, Razlam said.

“On Aug 1, at 12.30pm, police found a 53-second video clip uploaded to X depicting someone who identified himself as a policeman apprehending another person using a firearm.
