Police corporal charged with sexual assault and other offences in Orang Asli settlement

A POLICE corporal, Karisa Karim, 28, pleaded not guilty to three charges including sexual assault against a 21-year-old Orang Asli woman at the Parit Magistrate’s Court on Monday.

Karisa, who serves at the General Operations Force Camp (PGA) in Ulu Kinta, faces allegations of using criminal force with intent to outrage the victim’s modesty at a palm oil plantation near Kampung Asli Chenderong Kelubi, Kampung Gajah in Perak at approximately 3.10 a.m. on 21 September 2025.

The charge was made under Section 354 of the Penal Code, which carries a sentence of up to 10 years’ imprisonment, a fine, whipping, or any two of these punishments upon conviction.

Additionally, Karisa is charged under Section 509 of the Penal Code for insulting the modesty of the victim by recording her in a state of undress using a mobile phone, an offence punishable by up to five years in prison, a fine, or both.

He also faces a third charge of causing hurt to the same victim at the same time and place, under Section 323 of the Penal Code, which provides for imprisonment up to one year, a fine of up to RM2,000, or both.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Wan Mohd Ameerul Nazhif Wan Zulfikri offered bail of RM4,000 per charge, but the defence counsel from the National Legal Aid Foundation (YBGK), Jeyamaran Sandanasamy, requested a reduction on the grounds that the accused supports his elderly mother and suffers from anxiety, having previously sought treatment at Hospital Bahagia Ulu Kinta.

The magistrate granted bail at RM2,000 for each charge and set 29 October for the next case mention and appointment of legal representation. - September 29, 2025
