The Khol police have solved the murder of a 26-year-old woman whose body, wrapped in a mat, was found in bushes at the Dhawana village on May 31.

According to police, the woman, identified as Jyoti Kumari, was strangled to death by her husband, Kanwarpal, a resident of Mandola village.

“Kanwarpal has been arrested and has confessed to murdering his wife in a fit of rage,” said DSP Pawan Kumar.

On May 31, police received information that the body of an unidentified woman was lying in the bushes at the Dhawana village. A police team reached the spot and found the body wrapped in a blue mat. A cloth was stuffed into the deceased’s mouth.

A forensic team from the FSL was called to collect evidence. The body could not be identified initially and was placed in a mortuary.

The deceased was later identified as Jyoti Kumari, 26, from Uttar Pradesh, who was living in Mandola village.

On June 2, Jyoti’s father, Ram Adhar, told police that she was married to Kanwarpal. “Kanwarpal is addicted to alcohol and used to beat his wife when she objected to his drinking. He killed Jyoti during one such quarrel,” he alleged. Based on his statement, police registered a murder case at the Khol police station and began an investigation.

“Acting swiftly, Khol police arrested Kanwarpal on Wednesday. We will produce him before the court and seek police custody for further interrogation and recovery of evidence,” the DSP said.

During questioning, Kanwarpal admitted he was addicted to alcohol, which led to frequent fights with his wife. On May 30, he had a heated argument with Jyoti after returning home from a drinking session. In a fit of rage, he strangled her and stuffed a cloth in her mouth. He then hid the body in the bathroom, locked the house, and went to drink again. Around 3 am on May 31, he wrapped Jyoti’s body in a blue mat, placed it on his motorcycle, and dumped it in the bushes at the Dhawana village, the DSP said. Police are investigating the case thoroughly. The motorcycle used in the crime and other evidence will be recovered during police custody, he added.
