Dang Wangi police dismantled a drug processing syndicate, arresting six people including four foreigners and seizing RM9.07 million in assets.
KUALA LUMPUR: Police have dismantled a drug processing and distribution syndicate following the arrest of six individuals, including four foreign nationals, and the seizure of drugs and other items worth RM9.07 million in two raids at a luxury condominium in Jalan Ceylon here last month.
Acting Dang Wangi police chief Supt Nuzulan Mohd Din said the first raid, by the Narcotics Criminal Investigation Division of the Dang Wangi District Police Headquarters (IPD), was conducted at about 3.30 pm on Aug 19, based on intelligence.
He said police arrested two foreign men, two foreign women and a local man, aged between 19 and 35, during the raid.
“Upon inspecting the condominium unit, police seized 51 packets of powder suspected to be MDMA, weighing 51,686 grammes (51.686 kilogrammes) and estimated to be worth RM7,752,900,” he told a press conference at the Dang Wangi IPD here today.
Nuzulan said police subsequently conducted a second raid at another unit in the same condominium, arresting another foreign man, aged 35.
He said further checks led to the seizure of various types of drugs, including 5.9 kilogrammes of MDMA, 55 grammes of cannabis, eight grammes of Yaba pills and 150 grammes of Erimin 5 pills, with a total estimated value of RM908,455.
Police also seized various equipment believed to have been used to process the drugs.
Nuzulan said urine screening found that four of the six suspects tested positive for Ketamine, Amphetamine (AMP) and Methamphetamine, while the other two tested negative.
“Investigations revealed that all the suspects acted as drug processors and distributors after renting the condominium unit to process and distribute the illicit substances within the Klang Valley,” he said.
He said police also seized a luxury Lexus vehicle worth RM410,000, RM1,000 in cash, two watches and a bracelet under the Dangerous Drugs (Forfeiture of Property) Act 1988, bringing the total value of the drugs and other items seized to RM9.07 million.
Nuzulan said the case was being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which provides for the death penalty or life imprisonment and whipping of not less than 12 strokes upon conviction.
“Four suspects were charged in court on Sept 2 under Section 39B and Section 15(1)(a) of the same Act, while the other two suspects have been made prosecution witnesses,” he said.
