THE Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) has issued a firm denial regarding the alleged organisation of a “Giveaway Gadis QS Official” event, describing it as entirely false.
Melaka Police Chief Datuk Dzulkhairi Mukhtar said the matter came to light following a police report lodged by Jasin District Police Chief Superintendent Mohamad Rusli Mat, who received an image from a member of the public via WhatsApp regarding the supposed campaign at 6.32pm yesterday.
“The Jasin District Police Chief had earlier received a message from a member of the public concerning the circulation of an image purporting to be a media release from the Director of the Bukit Aman Crime Prevention and Community Safety Department (JPJKK) about the organisation of this allegedly fake programme.
“Police investigations confirmed that the content of the image, which was shared via WhatsApp, is false and untrue. The Director of JPJKK Bukit Aman has never issued any media statement related to this event,” Dzulkhairi said in a statement issued today.
The case is being investigated under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 for the misuse of network facilities. If convicted, offenders may face a fine of up to RM500,000, imprisonment for up to two years, or both.
Dzulkhairi also urged the public not to be misled by the circulation of unauthorised videos, images, or dubious news.
He recommended that individuals verify phone numbers or bank account details using the official “Semak Mule” website at [https://semakmule.rmp.gov.my](https://semakmule.rmp.gov.my).
He added that reports of fraud may be made to the National Scam Response Centre (NSRC) via the 997 hotline to halt financial transactions if one has already fallen victim to cybercrime. - May 16, 2025
