
Police detained a differently-abled woman to assist in an investigation concerning an incident of endangering a child in a moving vehicle.
Kajang district police chief ACP Naazron Abdul Yusof stated that the 46-year-old woman, who is visually impaired in one eye, was arrested at the Kajang district police headquarters. She had come with her husband to provide a statement at 4.50 pm.
"At 11.15 pm, police received a report regarding a 28-second video that went viral. The video, believed to have been taken at Jalan Suadamai in Bandar Tun Hussein Onn, Kajang, Selangor, was posted on TikTok by user Sangeethadas_Familyalaparai," Naazron explained in a statement today.
The video depicted a young girl perched on the front passenger seat window of a moving car. According to Naazron, the woman detained is the mother of the girl, who is also disabled.
To facilitate the investigation, police have seized the vehicle involved. The case is being investigated under Section 31(1)(a) of the Child Act 2001 and Section 336 of the Penal Code, which deal with child endangerment and acts endangering the lives or personal safety of others, respectively.
Naazron took this opportunity to advise the public against engaging in actions that could endanger children and other road users. He emphasized the importance of maintaining courteous behavior while on the road and ensuring the safety of all passengers, particularly children.
The police chief also urged anyone with information related to this incident to come forward. "Those with information can contact the investigating officer, Inspector Afiq Rifdi Mohd Azmi, at 011-29667474, from the Criminal Investigation Division of the Kajang district police headquarters, Selangor," he added.
