Police force under inspection after murder of Henry Nowak

  • His Majesty’s Inspectorate of Constabulary and Fire & Rescue Service has launched an inspection into Hampshire police following the murder of student Henry Nowak.
  • Police and Crime Commissioner Donna Jones requested the review to examine call-handling, training, impartiality, and initial response protocols for serious violence.
  • The inspection follows public outcry after video footage showed 18-year-old Mr Nowak being handcuffed shortly before losing consciousness and dying in December 2025.
  • Vickrum Digwa, 23, was sentenced to life imprisonment with a minimum term of 21 years in June for Mr Nowak's murder.
  • Two police officers are facing a gross misconduct investigation by the IOPC over allegations of failing to recognise urgent medical needs and provide immediate first aid.
