THE Philippine National Police (PNP) said it would be on full alert for possible unrest during the 54th anniversary of the declaration of Martial Law on Sept. 21.
“Full alert status has been declared in the National Capital Region Police Office. It will take effect at 12 midnight as we transition to Saturday, Sept. 19, and full deployment will be completed by Saturday afternoon at 5 p.m. So we will be deploying more than 15,700 personnel,” PNP spokesman Col. Allen Rae Co told reporters in a press briefing at Camp Crame on Thursday.
Of the number, about 6,000 are augmentation force from Regions 3 and 4A.
As part of the PNP’s maximum tolerance policy, all police officers deployed will be fitted with cameras and will not be carrying firearms.
The PNP said it has not received any application for permit to rally from any group.
“As of 9 a.m. Sept. 17, we have not received any information or applications for a rally permit yet, but we expect that someone will apply and conduct their activity on Sept. 21,” it said.
Co, however, noted that rallies can be held at designated freedom parks where there is no need to apply for permit.
