MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine National Police (PNP) named an acting director for its Highway Patrol Group to replace his predecessor who resigned over allegations of sexual harassment.

Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr., PNP chief, released the order issued by the PNP's Directorate for Personnel and Records Management on Wednesday for Brig. Gen. Rommel Batangan, Police Regional Office Central Luzon (PRO 3) deputy director for Administration, to succeed Brig. Gen. Jessie Tamayao who stepped down after a subordinate filed an administrative complaint before the National Police Commission (Napolcom) against him.

Tamayao denied the accusations in a statement and clarified that his resignation was not an admission of guilt but a respect for due process.
