Sentul police have launched a special operation to locate an unknown suspect who doused a 62-year-old woman in petrol and set her ablaze in Kepong.
KUALA LUMPUR: Police have launched a special operation to track down a man who doused an elderly woman with a substance believed to be petrol before setting her on fire at the premises of a number forecast operator in Taman Pusat Kepong here this morning.
Acting Sentul district police chief Supt Jasni Zolpa said the victim, 62, who worked as counter staff at the number forecast operator was attacked by the unknown suspect at 8 pm
“Preliminary investigations revealed the victim did not have any enemies nor received any previous threats. The motive of the incident is being investigated,” he said in a statement today, adding that the victim suffered about 50 per cent burns to her body and was rushed to Kuala Lumpur Hospital, where she is reported to be in stable but critical condition.
The Kuala Lumpur contingent police headquarters’ forensics team has also conducted further investigation at the scene of the crime and taken several samples of related items and deoxyribonucleic acid to assist investigations, he said, adding that the case is being investigated under Section 326 of the Penal Code.

In a separate case, Cheras district police chief ACP Mohd Rosdi Daud said a man, in his 20s, was injured in a scuffle outside Kuala Lumpur Football Stadium, Cheras last night after the end of the Hyundai ASEAN Cup match between Malaysia and the Philippines, adding that investigations are ongoing to determine the cause of the incident.
Meanwhile, Kajang district police chief ACP Naazron Abdul Yusof said police are looking for witnesses of a crash that killed a motorcyclist, 35, who had lost control while driving in the left lane and fell into the middle lane and was hit by an unknown vehicle that was unable to avoid him at Kilometre 301.4 of the Kuala Lumpur bound Kuala Lumpur-Seremban (PLUS) Highway yesterday.
The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
