Police hunting for man in Sandakan robbery

SANDAKAN: Police are tracking a man who robbed an elderly woman at Sibuga Market, Mile 8 Saturday morning.

Acting Sandakan Police Chief Supt Ramasamy A/L Kuppa said the 67-year-old woman was robbed in the parking area at the said market.

“The woman is a salted vegetables vendor. At the time of the incident, her handbag, which was placed on the front passenger seat, was stolen by an unknown man.

“The man then fled the scene by driving a car,” said Ramasamy in a statement.

The robbery incident was also recorded by a closed-circuit camera of a premises near the location of the incident and went viral on social media.

The case is being investigated under Section 379 of the Penal Code.
