POLICE have identified several individuals believed to have instigated provocation and unrest during the forced eviction of 37 terrace house units in Kampung Sungai Baru on Thursday.
Kuala Lumpur Police Chief, Datuk Fadil Marsus, issued a stern warning, stressing that authorities will not tolerate any party, including outsiders, who incite disorder. The incident resulted in injuries to a senior police officer.
"I am extremely angered that Dang Wangi District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Sulizmie Affendy Sulaiman, was injured after being struck by an object during the incident. This is no small matter and I will ensure those involved face strict action,” he said during a press conference at the scene.
Several individuals have since been detained to assist in the investigation.
“In that incident, some individuals were arrested and the case will be investigated under the Penal Code,” he added.
The injured officer is currently receiving treatment at Kuala Lumpur Hospital (HKL), while one other person reportedly sustained minor injuries.
“I do not discount the involvement of external parties who came into the area and attempted to provoke the situation,” Fadil said. “Everyone must understand that this is a legal process, not arbitrary action.”
He added that police, together with related agencies, will continue to assist residents—particularly the elderly—who are facing difficulties relocating.
As of midday, the situation remains under control. However, police maintain a zero-tolerance approach towards any defiance or unlawful conduct during the ongoing operation.
The Kampung Sungai Baru land acquisition has been a source of controversy, with many terrace house residents rejecting the proposed compensation of RM400 per square foot offered by the Federal Territories Kuala Lumpur Land and Mines Office.
The redevelopment project, which commenced in 2016, involves the acquisition of 67 terrace houses and 14 apartment blocks known as Flat Kampung Sungai Baru. - September 11, 2025
