Police investigate alleged assault of ‘skinhead’ band vocalist in Johor Bahru

POLICE have launched an investigation into claims that the vocalist of a local ‘skinhead’ music group was assaulted by a group of individuals at a shopping mall in Johor Bahru on Saturday night.

Johor Bahru Selatan District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Raub Selamat, confirmed that investigations began after police were alerted to a viral video circulating on social media that appeared to show the incident taking place around 10.30pm.

“Police initiated an investigation upon receiving information on the incident (which went viral) last night. Therefore, we urge members of the public to come forward to file a report to assist with the investigation,” he said in a statement.

He added that no official reports have been lodged so far, either by the alleged victim or any witnesses.

The case is being investigated under Section 148 of the Penal Code, relating to rioting with weapons, and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act, concerning the improper use of network facilities.

Two videos—one lasting 59 seconds and another 58 seconds—have gone viral, showing what appears to be a violent altercation. Social media posts accompanying the footage allege the singer was attacked and beaten by a group of men, with photos of injuries also shared online. - May 12, 2025
