Police investigate alleged student’s lewd act in university library

POLICE are investigating a man accused of behaving indecently in the library of a private university in Subang Jaya, following the circulation of a viral video.

Subang Jaya District Police Chief Assistant Commissioner Wan Azlan Wan Mamat confirmed the investigation, which was launched after a police report was filed at 9.28pm last night regarding two video recordings of the incident circulating on social media.

"Preliminary investigations revealed that the first video shows a man, believed to be a student, engaging in an act resembling masturbation inside the university library while watching a video on a computer in front of him," Wan Azlan said in a statement today.

"The second video shows the same student being paraded into the campus area by other students," he added.

Wan Azlan confirmed that the suspect's identity has been established and stated that police will request the suspect's family to bring him in for questioning next week.

"The case is being investigated under Section 294(a) of the Penal Code, which covers obscene acts in public, as well as Section 14 of the Minor Offences Act 1955, which carries a maximum penalty of three months' imprisonment, a fine, or both upon conviction," he said.

He also urged the public to refrain from engaging in obscene acts or disgraceful behaviour in public places.

Additionally, Wan Azlan appealed to anyone with information regarding the incident to assist with the investigation by coming forward to the Subang Jaya District Police Headquarters or contacting the investigating officer, Inspector T B Vanitha, at 017-2229832 or 03-7862 7222. – March 22, 2025
