POLICE have launched an investigation into the death of a Form One student who allegedly fell from a third-floor dormitory at Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Agama (SMKA) Tun Datu Mustafa in Limauan, Sabah.
Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek confirmed the Ministry of Education (MOE) is giving full cooperation to the authorities and has urged the public to refrain from spreading speculation that could interfere with the ongoing investigation.
“At this time, the incident is under police investigation. The Ministry of Education is fully cooperating with the authorities,” she said in a statement posted on Facebook.
“I urge the public not to make any assumptions that may disrupt the investigation. Please respect the family’s privacy and allow space for the investigation to proceed. Appropriate action will be taken based on the findings,” she added.
The minister also revealed that she and the top management of the ministry had visited the student’s family at the hospital to ensure their needs were met.
“We extend our deepest condolences to the family of Zara Qairina. May they be granted strength and patience during this difficult time.
“The Sabah Education Department (JPN) has also provided immediate support to the family, including psychosocial assistance,” she said.
The incident reportedly occurred on Wednesday and quickly spread on social media, with the student, formerly from Sekolah Kebangsaan Pantai Sipitang, pronounced dead on Thursday night while receiving treatment at Queen Elizabeth Hospital I (HQE I) in Kota Kinabalu.
The case has sparked public concern after social media posts alleged the student may have been a victim of bullying, though authorities have yet to confirm the claim.
A Facebook post from a user identified as Dun Sindumin Sipitang stated that the student was buried at Tanjung Ubi Cemetery in Kampung Mesapol. - July 18, 2025
