Police issue over 5,000 permits for fireworks, firecracker sales ahead of Aidilfitri

POLICE issued a total of 5,113 permits for the sale of fireworks and firecrackers in the lead-up to the Aidilfitri celebrations, from March 1 to 11, as part of their efforts to regulate festive activities.

Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Razarudin Husain revealed that 7,223 applications were received during this period, with 264 of them being rejected and 1,846 still pending approval.

"During this time, the police made 31 arrests and confiscated fireworks and firecrackers under Section 8 of the Explosives Act 1957," Razarudin said.

This legislation carries penalties of up to seven years in prison, a fine of RM10,000, or both, for those found guilty of violating its terms.

He also cautioned those who had been granted permits not to breach the conditions outlined in their approval, warning that any violation would result in the revocation of the permit.

Offenders could face severe consequences, including arrest and the confiscation of their stock.

Razarudin further urged the public to refrain from engaging in the sale or use of fireworks and firecrackers without the proper permits, emphasising the importance of maintaining public safety and order, particularly during the festive season of Aidilfitri. – March 24, 2025
