Police launch nationwide Op Soga XI ahead of World Cup 2026

Kuala Lumpur: Police have launched Op Soga XI nationwide to combat illegal gambling and betting activities in conjunction with the Fifa World Cup 2026, which begins on June 11 and runs until July 19.

In a statement on Wednesday, Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department director Datuk M Kumar (pic) said the operation would be carried out across all state contingents, focusing on online gambling syndicates, betting platforms, websites and promotions conducted through social media.

He said enforcement would also target illegal gambling premises, bettors, betting agents and individuals or premises involved in promoting unlawful betting activities.

The operation involves cooperation with agencies including the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission and Bank Negara Malaysia to identify and block platforms, websites and transactions linked to illegal gambling syndicates.

Kumar urged the public not to participate in illegal gambling activities and to channel information to the nearest police station, warning that stern action would be taken against offenders under existing laws.
