Police locate driver who allegedly fled crash that killed five-year-old

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 12 - Police have located the suspected driver of a BYD Seal who allegedly fled the scene of a six-vehicle crash that killed a five-year-old girl along Jalan Kuching on Saturday.

The 24-year-old suspect is currently receiving treatment for a concussion at a private hospital in Damansara and is under the supervision of an investigating officer.

The girl died after the car she was travelling in was involved in the collision along Jalan Kuching, heading from the city centre towards Segambut.

Kuala Lumpur Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department (JSPT) Chief ACP Mohd Zamzuri Mohd Isa said preliminary investigations revealed that the accident occurred at 3.44 pm amid slow-moving traffic when a Perodua Bezza driven by the victim's father was believed to have been struck from behind by a BYD Seal.

"The collision also involved a motorcycle before the Perodua Bezza reportedly spun into the right lane and struck three other vehicles - a Nissan Almera, a Toyota Alphard and a Perodua Myvi.

"As a result of the accident, the child, who was seated in the rear passenger seat, sustained severe head injuries and was later pronounced dead at Kuala Lumpur Hospital (HKL)," he said in a statement today.

Mohd Zamzuri said the victim's 30-year-old father suffered an injury to his right hand, while a 33-year-old motorcyclist sustained a head injury. Both are receiving treatment at HKL.

He added that the drivers of the other three vehicles involved escaped unhurt.

The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.

Members of the public who witnessed the incident or have information are urged to contact the Tun HS Lee Traffic Police Station at 03-2071 9999 or any nearby police station.
