SHAH ALAM, June 30 - Police arrested a man found in possession of suspected drugs in Gedangsa, Hulu Selangor, around 10pm yesterday.
Hulu Selangor district police said the arrest was made by its Narcotics Crime Investigation Division (NCID) following an inspection on the suspect, which led to the discovery of two transparent plastic packets containing crystalline substances believed to be heroin.
“Following the arrest, the Hulu Selangor NCID has opened an investigation paper under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952,” it said in a Facebook post today.
If found guilty, the suspect, a Malaysian, may face the death penalty or life imprisonment, and if the death sentence is not imposed, he faces a sentence of not less than 12 strokes of the cane.
Hulu Selangor district police chief Manimaran Muniandy urged those with information on drug activities, crime or suspicious behaviour to contact police.
He stressed that immediate action will be taken on all complaints and information received without any compromise or prejudice.
