A police officer was killed and 24 people wounded in suspected homemade bomb explosions in Lviv, Ukraine, with one suspect detained.

LVIV: A police officer was killed and 24 other people were wounded after several explosive devices detonated in the western Ukrainian city of Lviv.

The National Police said on Sunday that homemade devices were preliminarily believed to be responsible for the midnight blasts.

The first explosion occurred after a patrol crew arrived at the scene of a suspected shop break-in.

A second explosion followed a short time later, according to police statements on Telegram.

Lviv Mayor Andriy Sadovyi described the incident as a terrorist act.

President Volodymyr Zelenskiy said on X that police had detained a suspect, though he provided no further details.
