- Former West Mercia Police special constable Luke Hodgson has been dismissed without notice after failing to pay for three carrier bags worth £1.20 from Sainsbury’s.
- Hodgson deliberately stole the 40p carrier bags on three separate occasions over a 12-day period while working at his second job at the supermarket chain.
- Following his dismissal from Sainsbury’s for gross misconduct, Hodgson faced an accelerated police disciplinary hearing chaired by Chief Constable Richard Cooper.
- Chief Constable Cooper ruled that Hodgson acted dishonestly, breaching professional standards of integrity and bringing the police service into disrepute.
- Although Hodgson repaid the money and co-operated fully with the investigation, he was dismissed from the police force and placed on the College of Policing barred list.
