MEMBERS of the General Operations Force (PGA) were forced to discharge five rounds at a fleeing vehicle early this morning after a human smuggling suspect attempted to ram two police cars during a dramatic encounter near the Telok Panglima Garang toll plaza.
The incident, which occurred at around 4.30am, involved two suspected human traffickers ferrying undocumented Bangladeshi migrants in a Toyota Fortuner and a four-wheel drive. The vehicles were detected by the PGA’s Central Brigade Task Force on Anti-Trafficking in Persons and Smuggling of Migrants (ATIPSOM), with support from officers stationed at PGA Pulau Carey.
According to Kuala Langat District Police Chief Superintendent Mohd Akmalrizal Radzi, the four-wheel drive driver suddenly reversed at high speed, crashing into a Perodua Myvi patrol car from Pulau Carey, leaving it severely damaged and immobile.
“Simultaneously, the Toyota Fortuner rammed into another team vehicle, prompting two officers to fire five shots aimed at the vehicle’s rear tyres in an effort to disable it,” he said.
Despite the warning shots, the four-wheel drive fled by driving against traffic, while the Fortuner sped off towards the South Klang Valley Expressway (SKVE).
Police later found the Toyota Fortuner abandoned by the roadside, with its doors open and no occupants inside. A follow-up search of the area was launched to locate the suspects and undocumented migrants.
“No officers were injured during the operation,” Akmalrizal confirmed, adding that the case is being investigated under Section 186 and Section 307 of the Penal Code for obstructing public servants and attempted murder.
He urged the public not to speculate on the incident, which could disrupt ongoing investigations.
